Given that online activity has become a key part of our behaviour,  social media checks have become an integral part of the recruitment process.  

The Department for Education’s guidance on Keeping Children Safe in Education 2022 states that:

“….as part of the shortlisting process schools and colleges should consider carrying out an online search as part of their due diligence on the shortlisted candidates.’

Social media and its uses can open up a vast array of challenges and in organisations that are not used to dealing with this on a regular basis it can be a practical and legislative minefield. As an expert in this field, Ben is well aware of the pitfalls.
